CE, FCC, RoHS and FDA 510(k): What Buyers Should Verify
Compliance abbreviations can look reassuring on a product image, but they do not all mean the same thing. Buyers should review the underlying document, scope, model list and final configuration.
CE documentation
CE-related files may address electromagnetic compatibility, electrical safety or other requirements. Check the standards listed, the applicant, the models covered and whether the final product remains equivalent to the evaluated sample.
FCC Part 15B
For many digital devices, FCC Part 15B documentation relates to unintentional radiators. It is not a general endorsement of performance or medical effectiveness.
RoHS
RoHS reports address restricted substances in the assessed materials or product. Confirm the tested sample and report scope; a battery transport document is not a substitute.
FDA 510(k)
In the United States, an FDA 510(k) clearance is tied to a submission, device description, indications and model scope. Use "cleared," not "approved," and do not extend one clearance to unrelated models.
The buyer’s working rule
Match exact model, configuration, intended market and proposed claims before relying on any document. When the product changes, review applicability again with qualified compliance support.
